the story so far
Growing up in Lincolnshire among the myth-imbued landscapes of the fens music was always a part of Rosalind's life. Learning guitar loosely by ear in her teen years, her first experiences of the instrument were in open tunings, left that way in farmhouse corners by her musical father. Inevitably, this affinity for the warmth of alternate tunings has seeped into her work as an accomplished guitar player today. Now 21 and living in Leeds she cut her teeth on the live music scene in York as a student of English Literature, building her reputation as an exciting new artist armed with insightful, truthful, and powerful songwriting. Yet to release her debut, she has already padded out the CV with work for label Dirty Hit (The 1975, Wolf Alice), international touring, a co-headline UK Tour and multiple co-writes.
Rosalind's gift is one beyond her years. The striking warmth of her voice and the effortlessness with which she plays lyrical and sometimes complex guitar lines creates a musical landscape that you want to inhabit with her. Drawing from a hushed pallet, the power is in the vulnerability of her work, drawing comparisons from reviewers of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Immediate and urgent, her writing curates a space into which she invites you to reflect on themes of trauma, healing, forgiveness, and growth, led starkly by her arresting and unusual voice.
For all the nuance of her writing she always has one eye on pop form, her love of folk-rock and pop icons from James Taylor and Joni Mitchell to Phoebe Bridgers shining through in her gentle but effective hooks.
These qualities were noticed and encouraged by contemporary songwriter Benjamin Francis Leftwich when they met in 2018, and Rosalind is now a trusted collaborator. Their creative debut was acclaimed single 'Elephant' released in 2019 which she provided second vocal for. This pairing came with a spattering of international shows together for Rosalind both as a soloist and as a guest member of Wounded Bear. She has also shared a stage with critically acclaimed artists Sam Amidon, Rose Cousins, Katie von Schliecher, and Cattle and Cane, to name a few. Before the 2020 lockdown she embarked on a successful first co-headline UK Tour, which she booked and promoted herself. Now, after years spent writing, honing, reflecting and working with artists she admires, she is finally working on a much anticipated debut release. With the rest of 2020 dedicated to making this happen, there is certainly much more to come from Rosalind.
